Lucas Wolfe Picks Up A Second Place Finish At Clay County Fresh off a fifth place finish at the Antioch Speedway in Antioch, California Wolfe made the long haul to the Clay County Fair Speedway looking to stay consistent. The evening started off with Wolfe timing in eighth quick overall, in the heat race he was able to hold off Kerry Madsen to finish in second place transferring to the Dash and the feature event. In the Dash crew chief Randy Wolfe made a few adjustments to the No.5W machine and the changes definitely paid off as Wolfe won the Dash easily putting himself on the pole for the feature event. Starting on the front row of the feature was huge for Wolfe and when the green lights came on around the 3/8 mile track Wolfe jumped out to the early lead with Craig Dollansky three car lengths behind him. Wolfe was running the middle to bottom lines in the turns while Dollansky started to reel in the orange No.5W a few laps later by working the top of the speedway. On Lap-5; Wolfe just missed mark and Dollansky took over the lead in turns one and two by driving around the outside of the BMW Construction No.5W. From there Wolfe continued to drive his race and on Lap-6; Wolfe decided to try the cushion in turn four but the car did not respond well and back to the bottom he went in turn two where the car hooked up as he started to catch Dollansky right away. Wolfe would run the same line for two more laps and he took the lead away from Dollansky again on Lap-8. After Wolfe took the lead Dollansky stayed right with him and on the following lap Dollansky again would use the cushion to his advantage as he powered by Wolfe on Lap-9. Running in the second position Dollansky started to open up his lead in traffic. Wolfe continued to use the bottom and the middle grooves and he slowly started to catch Dollansky again. As the feature continued the first caution flag of the night would come out for the race leader Craig Dollansky who got tangled up with a lapped car. Dollansky would go to the work area with major right front suspension damage and Wolfe inherited the lead back on Lap-18. On the ensuing restart Wolfe once again got the jump he was looking for powered ahead of the rest of the field. As Wolfe continued to lead Donny Schatz was starting to make his presence felt in a big as he started to carve his way towards the front from the seventh starting position. Wolfe was handling the traffic brilliantly and looked like he had things under control until Lap-29. |
